FAQ

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET A CHECK-UP?

It is highly advisable to get a check-up at least once a year, even if you do not notice any pain or discomfort in your mouth.

WHAT DOES TEETH CLEANING CONSIST OF?

It consists of removing plaque and the stains on your teeth and gums. A cleaning normally lasts around 30 minutes. To remove plaque an ultra-sound device is normally used, and to remove the stains a rotating brush with a special paste for polishing is used. Cleaning cannot be performed by just anyone, but only by dental hygienists (certified) and dentists. A poorly performed cleaning job can seriously damage one's dental and general health.

WHAT IS DENTAL HYPERSENSITIVITY?

It is a malady characterized by pain in the teeth, mainly when one consumes food or very hot or cold , sweet or acidic foods or liquids, or even when brushing one's teeth.
It may be caused by excessive brushing, the use of a brush that is too hard, or by severe tooth grinding, which removes enamel due to the intense force generated by this habit.

WHAT IS HALITOSIS?

Halitosis is a symptom or sign characterized by bad breath or a disagreeable odor from the mouth. Over 50% of people suffer it. Almost everyone suffers halitosis when they wake up in the morning, as the mouth has been inactive and the production of saliva has been reduced.

IS TOOTH WHITENING SAFE?

Yes. Clinical studies have demonstrated that the chemical products used, whether carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide, are safe for teeth and gums, provided they are employed under a dentist's supervision.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF TOOTH WHITENING?

For most patients there are none. However, some patients may experience temporary sensitivity (to cold or heat). This effect may diminish some hours after the treatment, or with the application of products with (colorless) fluoride, or the use of special toothpastes prescribed by one's dentist.  To avoid this sensitivity patients should refrain from consuming carbonated or citric beverages.

HOW LONG DOES A WHITENING TAKE?

The treatment is carried out in one session lasting an hour for patients whose mouths are healthy and no previous treatments are necessary for cavities, extractions or the treatment of swollen gums.

IS THE DENTAL IMPLANT SURGICAL PROCEDURE COMPLEX?

The dental implant procedure is an outpatient treatment requiring no prolonged stay at the clinic. The operation can be carried out at properly-equipped dental offices. In general a local anesthetic is used, though for longer surgeries such as total rehabilitations, sinus lifts and bone regeneration, an anesthesiologist may be called upon to apply monitored, intravenous anesthesia. In neither case will the patient feel pain or discomfort.

HOW LONG DOES THE COMPLETE TREATMENT LAST?

Depending upon the type and brand of the implants, the waiting time between the placement of the posts and the placement of the prosthetics may range from 60 days to 6 months.  This is one of the questions which you should ask your specialist before opting for the treatment.

ARE IMPLANTS A LASTING SOLUTION?

Definitely. A well-executed implant can last much longer than an actual tooth.
